DEVELOPMENT OF THE SANGHA ADMINISTRATION ACCORDING TO THE BUDDHISM REFORM PLAN OF SANGHA ANGTHONG PROVINCE

Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1. to analyze the general conditions of the monastic administration according to the Buddhism reform plan of the Sangha in Ang Thong Province, 2. to study the process of developing the monastic administration, and 3. to present the development of the monastic administration of the Sangha in Ang Thong Province. The research used a qualitative methodology, collecting data from 25 key informants through in-depth interviews, and 10 monks or laypersons in a focus group discussion by purposefully selected. Data were analyzed using descriptive content interpretation.

The research results were found that: 1. The general conditions of the monastic administration of the Sangha in Ang Thong Province were outstanding in the aspects of clear structure, appropriate application of policies and strategic plans, government support, the use of technology, and cooperation with the community, resulting in efficient operations. However, there were still limitations such as access to areas, resource allocation, personnel development, and incomplete participation. Nevertheless, there were opportunities to extend from the support of the Sangha Supreme Council, cooperation with local authorities, the use of technology, and people’s faith in Buddhism. 2. The development process integrated concrete management with adherence to Buddhist principles, especially applying the Six Saraniyadhammas, which helped strengthen faith, unity, and stability within the community, although there are still limitations in participation of monasteries and the use of empirical data. This approach was an important foundation for continuous development. 3. The development of monastic administration, by overall, advanced in all aspects, including strengthening Buddhism through dissemination and community connection, the use of technology and databases in administration, developing the organization into a Buddhist learning center, and integrated resource management. All of these helped create transparency, strengthen faith, and increase the stability of the monastic administration of the Sangha in Ang Thong Province in a sustainable manner.
