DEVELOPING A MENTORING SYSTEM TO ENHANCE THE EFFECTIVENESS OF RESEARCH MONITORING ON INTELLECTUAL AND MORAL DEVELOPMENT THROUGH RELIGIOUS PRINCIPLES

This research article aimed: 1. to examine the conditions and limitations of research monitoring on intellectual and moral development through religious principles, and 2. to develop a mentoring system that enhances the effectiveness of such research monitoring. A qualitative research approach was employed. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with 25 key informants, including individuals involved in policy formulation, research administration, and scholars in Buddhist studies, as well as focus group discussions with 10 experts in research and research monitoring. The data were analyzed using descriptive content analysis.
The findings revealed that: 1. the current research monitoring system on intellectual and moral development through religious principles is characterized by operations based on kalyāṇamitta (spiritual friendship) relationships between mentors and researchers, emphasizing collaborative learning, reflective thinking, and the application of yoniso-manasikāra to promote rational and analytical thinking. However, limitations were found in research information systems, knowledge management, and reliance on individuals rather than systematic mechanisms; 2. the development of the mentoring system can be synthesized into a Buddhist-based mentoring system with a clear structure and process, using Buddhist principles as the guiding framework, namely the Four Bases of Success (Iddhipāda), the Threefold Training (Sīla, Samādhi, Paññā), yoniso-manasikāra, and the Four Principles of Social Integration (Saṅgahavatthu), which contribute to systematic, continuous, and contextually appropriate research monitoring; and the developed mentoring system enhances the effectiveness of research monitoring in both process and outcomes, leading to holistic development of researchers’ wisdom, morality, and research ethics. The research outputs demonstrate quality and practical applicability at the individual, community, and research system levels. These findings indicate that integrating religious principles into a mentoring system can sustainably support both research development and human development.
