Abstract
The purpose of this research was to study needs and guidelines for development of English teachers’ competency in schools under Secondary Educational Service Area Office 40. The research methodology consists of 2 parts. The first part was to study English teachers’ needs in developing their competency. Data were collected using questionnaire from 127 English teachers in secondary schools under Secondary Educational Service Area Office 40. Data were analyzed by using frequency, percentage and standard deviation. The second part was to study guidelines of English teacher’s competency development. Data were obtained from interviewing five experts. Content analysis was used to analyzed. The results of the research were as follows: 1) the needs of the English teachers under Secondary Educational Service Area Office 40 in competency development in overall were at the high level. Considering each competency, English knowledge was found at the highest competency to develop followed by teaching skill and teaching performance. 2) The results of guidelines for development of English teachers’ competency in schools under Secondary Educational Service Area Office 40 were stated in total of 17 ways; 6 ways in teaching technique and methodology, 6 ways in information and communication technology and innovation skills and 5 ways in teacher’s teaching performances.
