Abstract

The purpose of this research was to develop a model for the development of teachers using lesson study through professional learning community to enhance the art of teaching for teachers. The research was conducted in 4 steps, namely; 1) studying the elements of the art of teaching for teachers and the guidelines for promoting the art of teaching for teachers, 2) creating and checking the quality of the model, 3) studying the results of using the model, and 4) evaluating and improving the model. The research sample was a group of 10 Srisamrong Chanupatham School teachers. The research instruments were the test for measuring the knowledge and understanding in the art of teaching, the evaluation form for the art of teaching, and the learning log. The experiment had been conducted for 26 hours. The statistics used for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and content analysis. The results of the research revealed that 1) the art of teaching had 3 components which are classroom management ability, learning management ability, and measurement and evaluation ability, including the guidelines for promoting the art of teaching by learning together through professional learning community in the process of lesson study, 2) the developed model had 6 components, namely history, principles, objectives, activities, measurement and evaluation, and factors contributing to the success, in which the overall appropriateness of the model was at the highest level, 3) the results of teacher development revealed that teachers had an overall knowledge development and understanding of the art of teaching after the model implementation higher than before at 71.58% showing that teachers had the overall art of teaching at a high level, and 4) opinions of relevant parties on the use of this model revealed that the model greatly helped in developing the art of teaching for teachers resulting in better quality learners and good attitude towards working together, and there was the model’s improvement in terms of duration of the development of providing knowledge about the art of teaching to the teachers and steps for designing and developing teaching lessons, including that the management of PLC was improved by dividing teachers into the same learning areas so that the similar contexts of problems were grouped.
