Abstract

The research aims to 1) construct a school network for developing a local earthquake disaster curriculum in Chiang Rai and 2) study lessons learned from a school network development. The target group consisted of teachers and students from 3 network schools in a risk area of Chiang Rai. The research was conducted with 3 steps of research and development methodology; Step 1 constructing a school network by using the network development model, then providing teachers' training through an online platform, and following up through school visits and supervision to empower teachers. Step 2 implementing the curriculum and Step 3 studying lessons learned from success and good practice. Research findings revealed as follows:
1. The result from the school network development for developing a local earthquake disaster curriculum in Chiang Rai indicated that 1) an emerging of the first school network to transmit knowledge to the second school network by using an area-based network framework and blended training method. 2) the developed curriculum by teachers can be operationalized in actual practices and in correspondence with the context in which teachers implemented the curriculum in the form of block course and provided active learning classroom management 3) the students from three schools performed academic progress indicated by achieving the criterion standards, they have earthquake evacuation skills at a fair level, but their awareness of readiness for facing earthquake disaster revealed at the highest level.
2. The result from the lesson learned found that 1) the school success leaded to the innovative curriculum development, an emerging of whole school-based teachers' reform, having network between schools, and school partnership, moreover school can connect and create proceeding phases of the school network, 2) the teachers succeeded in developing teachers to construct a curriculum and design earthquake activities for teaching and learning after training through the online platform appropriately and they also have a knowledge management network to share and finally, they found leadership in between those who can take a leadership role as mentor for the next generation,
3) the students succeeded in having self-esteem on both students themselves and others, collaboration skill, team working, and leadership, and 4) factors of success would be 4.1) trustfulness and positive working relationships among members, 4.2) having the same expected goals of members, and members have morale. 4.3) bottom-up organization and mutual collaborative supervision between researchers and mentors. 4.4) confidence in team researchers and mentors, including training through the online platform was clear and compatible for actual implementation.
