AN EFFECT OF SELF-DIRECTED LEARNING VIA MICRO-LEARNING MEDIA ON ENGLISH GRAMMAR OF GRADE-7 STUDENTS
Main Article Content
Abstract
This research aimed to: 1) develop micro-learning media with quality and effectiveness in learning English grammar structures for self-directed learning; 2) compare academic achievement before and after learning the English grammar structure through self-directed learning via micro-learning media; and 3) study retention of learning the English grammar structure through self-directed learning via micro-learning media. The sample group consisted of 30 grade-7 students at Samutprakan School the Secondary Educational Service Area office Samutprakan semester 1 Academic year 2024, selected through cluster random sampling. The research tools and instruments included micro-learning media and pre-test and post-test assessments. The statistical analyses method included mean () standard deviation (SD), and nonparametric statistics: Wilcoxon signed rank test results before and after the experiment. The research findings showed that 1) the quality of the micro-learning media for learning English grammar structure was rated excellent (
= 4.75, SD = 0.28); 2) the efficiency ratio (E1/E2) was 84.94/83.78, higher than the established criteria of 80/80; 3) the self-directed learning activities using micro-learning media on English grammar structure improved significantly after the intervention, with statistical significance at the 0.05 level; and 4) the student’s English grammar structure retention mean scores after the learning retention decreased from the post-test average score of 12.37. to 11.13.
