THE DEVELOPMENT OF LEARNING MANAGEMENT STRATEGY BASED ON THE APPLICATION OF PROBLEM-BASED LEARNING AND METACOGNITION APPROACHES TO ENHANCE ABILITY OF PROBLEM SOLVING WITH CRITICAL THINKING, SELF-REGULATING AND LEARNING ACHIEVEMENT OF UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS KASETSART UNIVERSITY

The purposes of this research were to develop and study of the implementing of learning management strategy based on the application of problem- based learning and metacognition approaches to enhance ability of problem solving with critical thinking, self-regulating and learning achievement of undergraduate students Kasetsart University. The research was devided into 3 phases: Phase 1: studied the states of problem and strategy for developing strategy of learning management through interviewed; the professionals and teachers of Kasetsart University. Phase 2: developed learning management strategy based on the application of problem-based learning and metacognition approaches by using focus group discussion and evaluated the strategy. Phase 3: studied the results of using the learning management strategy, the sample group was 50 persons of Kasetsart University Chalermphrakiat Sakon Nakhon Province Campus students of first semester in the academic year 2016. Experiment group 25 persons learned by strategy based on the application of problem-based learning and metacognition approaches and control group 25 persons learned by course syllabus. The research instruments comprised 1) learning management plans, 2) problem solving with critical thinking ability test, 3) self-regulating ability questionnaires, and 4) learning achievement test, the data was analyzed by mean, standard deviation and percentage, dependent t-test and MANCOVA. The results of the research were as follows:
1. The development of learning management strategy is problem-based learning and metacognition approaches comprised 7 components: name of strategy, rationale, theory, principles, objectives, learning procedures; 1) learning management process comprised 6 steps including problem definition, connect to problem, brainstorming for planning, data gathering and analysis, problem solving solution and learning assessment, and 2) environment arrangement inside and outside classroom and evaluation. The evaluation of the experts found that the strategy of learning management mean scores was = 4.26, S.D. = 0.67.
2. The results of using learning management strategy showed as follows:
2.1 Experiment group and control group have the posttest mean score of the problem solving with critical thinking ability, self-regulating ability and learning achievement higher than
the pretest.
2.2 The mean score of problem solving with critical thinking, self-regulating ability and learning achievement of experiment group was higher than control group.
