Intertextuality in poetry ‘The Heart’s Fifth Chamber’ : The mission of the postmodern poets

Abstract

This article aims to study AngkanChanthathip’s poetry ‘The Heart’s Fifth Chamber’ by applying the concept of intertextuality. The results revealed that the intertextuality method was used for constructing poems into four characteristics: a constructing of intertextuality and literature, a constructing of intertextuality and settings or historical events and social phenomena, a constructing of intertextuality and academic works through the perspective of scholar and in academic form, a constructing of intertextuality and a set of cultural semiotic which included Buddhist culture, local culture, and popular culture. It is found that the poet uses intertextuality for the purpose of expressing himself and constructing of meaning, truth, and poetry.
