Belief and Value in Muay Thai Boxers’ Names

Abstract
Most of the boxers’ names comprise of two words: initial and final ones. This research reveals that the meanings of initial and final part of their names can be categorized into 26 groups. In the initial part of their names, the meaning of bravery or superiority is the most popular one and the meaning of cunning person is the least. In the final part of their names, the meaning of priceless objects is the most popular and the meaning of inferiority is the least. These findings are confirmed by the result from a research on Thai boxer’s belief and magic which has been reported that Muay Thai boxers need bravery the best before they are engaged in fighting.
