Participation of Community Members in Environmental Management in Bang Len sub-district Municipality, Bang Yai district, Nonthaburi

Abstract

This research aimed to 1) study participation level of the community members in environmental management in Bang Len sub-district municipality, Bang Yai district, Nonthaburi 2) study problems, obstacles and guidelines on participation of the community members in environmental management in Bang Len sub-district municipality, Bang Yai district, Nonthaburi. The population was 4,764 families. The 370 sample groups were selected by accidental sampling using the Yamane’s formula. Questionnaire was used as research tool. Data was analyzed by using statistical package for the social sciences to find out frequency, percentage, mean, and standard deviation.

            The finding showed that:

            1)  The participation of the community members in environmental management in Bang Len sub-district municipality, Bang Yai district, Nonthaburi was at the highest level (= 4.23). The highest level was receiving benefits. The community had better environment in term of cleanness and tidiness. The community members had good health. The solid waste problem as well as community degradation decreased and the community members could apply knowledge from activity participation to their daily life (= 4.27). The lowest mean was the operation (= 4.21). The community members still lacked of knowledge and understanding in their role and responsibility in the community. In addition, the information propagation towards the community members was still not widespread extensively and regularly.

            2)  For the problems and obstacles, it was found that the information propagation was not widespread. The possible solution was additional modes of propagation such as poster, social media including Facebook, Line and community radio.
