Innovation for Improving Pronunciation of English Alphabet Sounds for the Freshmen Years Students at Phranakhon Rajabhat University

Abstract

The research titled Innovation for Improving Pronunciation of English Alphabet Sounds for the Freshmen Year Students Phranakhon Rajabhat University (PNRU) aimed to develop the innovation for improving pronunciation of English alphabet sounds for the freshmen year students at PNRU and to study the outcomes of students’ alphabet sounds pronunciation.

          The samples were 20 freshmen year students at PNRU. They volunteered to pronounce the sounds of English alphabets by using two sets of English Pronunciation. The first set was about how to correctly pronounce English consonants, with an exercise at the end of the chapter. The second set was about how to correctly pronounce English vowels correctly, with an exercise at the end of the chapter.   

          The tools used in this experiment were two English pronunciation sets. They were the innovation for English learning, focusing on allowing learners to practice pronouncing English accurately and clearly based on pronunciation principles. The tools also included pre-test and post-test; each test contained 30 items and each item worth one point. Learning achievement of student’s pronunciation was measured by average score, standard deviation, and comparison of the test results before using the practice sets.  

          The results of PNRU student’s improvement in pronouncing the sounds of English alphabets after learning was higher than that before learning at statistically significance of 0.5.
