Methodology of Advanced Stage of Ja Khe Playing

Abstract
This research aimed to present the analysis and synthesis results of the methodology in advanced stage of Ja Khe playing by 4 Ja Khe masters. The data collected from documents and interview was analyzed to find the information particularly on advanced stage methodology of Ja Khe playing. Then it was compiled and publicized according to the established objectives:
1) to study the method of Ja Khe playing by the masters of Ja Khe in the present times.
2) to compile the advanced stage methodology of Ja Khe playing.
3) to establish guideline for developing advanced stage methodology of Ja Khe playing.
The researcher focused his study on the methodology of Ja Khe solo in the advanced stage. This is because pieces of music for Ja Khe solo is full of sophisticated techniques of Ja Khe playing. It was found in this study that, in the overview, the performances of Ja Khe by the masters have similarities. The techniques that are unique of Ja Khe instrument are properly used in performing and enriching various kinds of tunes. Solo songs that the masters newly composed by himself also have enrichment of the tune similar to that of traditional songs. It shows that the playing of Ja Khe instrument has distinctive forms that can function as the standard for Ja Khe musicians today to systematically study. Advanced stage of Ja Khe playing but the masters can be compiled into 5 principles: (1) foundation of advanced Ja Khe playing, (2) techniques of advanced Ja Khe playing, (3) scales of advanced Ja Khe playing, (4) rhythm and tempo of advanced Ja Khe playing, and (5) manner of Ja Khe player while playing the instrument. These five principles can be the guidance for Ja Khe musicians to perfect their skill in Ja Khe playing up to a level. The highest state of advanced Ja Khe playing can only be attained by constant practice of the musician until he or she becomes a master, as well as the diligence in improving one’s own performance.
