Abstract

This study endeavors to investigate the role of daily newspapers in disseminating content aimed at fostering cooperation among ASEAN member countries and the direction of content contributing to knowledge and understanding about ASEAN. Employing content analysis methodology, the findings reveal that newspapers predominantly feature content focusing on individual member countries, with content depicting inter-country relations following suit, while ASEAN-related content receives the least attention. Concerning content pertaining to individual member countries, Myanmar garners the highest frequency of mention, followed by Malaysia and Indonesia, respectively. Furthermore, content related to the ASEAN community primarily emphasizes the economic aspect, succeeded by content addressing social and cultural dimensions, and lastly, the political security aspect of ASEAN

In terms of presenting knowledge and understanding about ASEAN, the study observes that content aimed at raising awareness about the roles of member countries is most prevalent, followed by content concerning knowledge and understanding about welfare and social protection. Lastly, content aimed at fostering an understanding of the benefits of the ASEAN community concludes the discourse.
