The Development of a Game-Based Learning Model to Enhance Analytical Thinking Skills in Social Studies Economics Ninth Grade Students

Abstract
This research is a Classroom Action Research (CAR) study conducted with the objective of comparing and promoting analytical thinking skills in Social Studies, Economics Strand s of the Grade 9 students through a game-based learning approach. The target group for this study consisted of 40 students from Grade 9, enrolled in the first semester of the 2025 academic year at Saipanya Rangsit School, under the Pathum Thani Secondary Educational Service Area Office, Office of the Basic Education Commission, Ministry of Education. Two types of research instruments were employed: 1.Data collection instruments – an analytical thinking ability test in Social Studies (Economics Strand), consisting of 20 multiple-choice items with four options each. 2.Experimental instruments – a set of four game-based learning lesson plans for the Social Studies, Religion, and Culture Learning Area (Economics Strand), developed by the researcher, implemented over four instructional periods. The findings revealed that the students’ learning achievement in economics after being taught through the game-based learning approach was significantly higher than before the instruction.
