Organizing Role Play Activities to Promote Analytical Thinking Skills in the Course of Civil Work Price Estimation on the topic of the Procurement Process Using Electronic Bidding (e-Bidding) Methods for Higher Vocational Certificate Students in Civil Engineering at Samut Prakan Technical College

Abstract

   The purposes of this research were to 1) examine learning achievement through organizing role-play learning activities. 2) Investigate analytical thinking skills developed through role-play learning activities, and 3) assess the students' satisfaction with role-play learning activities. The sample group consisted of 17 first-year Higher Vocational Certificate students majoring in Civil Engineering at Samut Prakan Technical College, enrolled in the first semester of the 2024 academic year, selected through simple random sampling. The research instruments included a lesson plan using Role Play learning activities, a pre- and post-learning achievement test on civil work price estimation (20 items), an analytical thinking skill’s assessment (3 items), and a satisfaction questionnaire regarding the Role Play learning activities. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and t-test statistics. The results of the study revealed that 1) Students who participated in role-play learning activities in civil work price estimation demonstrated significantly higher post-learning achievement than pre-learning achievement at the .05 significance level. 2) Students exhibited significantly improved analytical thinking skills after participating in the role-play learning activities at the .05 significance level, and 3) Students expressed the highest level of satisfaction with the role-play learning activities, with an average score of 4.62
