International Media and Politics

This academic article aims to study the relationship between international media and politics. The concept of “Politics and Popular Culture” of John Street is adopted as the conceptual frame- work of the study. It is found that politics is closely involved with the media and popular culture in 3 manners: 1. Politicians closely engage with the media and popular culture, or initiate the participation of public figures in their political campaigns. 2. Politicians own a media business or other businesses in relation to popular culture. 3. Politicians implement a media strategy or adopt traditions of popular culture as a model in performing their political role. In addition, it is found that international media has an impact on politics in many aspects, such as supporting or objecting to political issues. However, the proper relationship between international media and politics is to maintain a distance to avoid a conflict of interest.
