Abstract

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze Taylor Swift’s perspectives on the love conveyed through her songs from her ten studio albums. The research questions are: What love themes are conveyed in Taylor Swift’s songs? How do love themes in Taylor Swift’s songs reflect her love in her life phases from young adulthood to adulthood? The theoretical framework of the study is based on Megan Price (2016), Kretowicz (2012), and Franzoro (2017). The data is selected from song lyrics from her albums composed when Swift was 16 until she was 32. The finding revealed many kinds of love themes that Swift conveyed through her albums: unrequited love, teenage love, wishful love, sad love, romantic love, and immoral love themes. Additionally, the most popular love theme driven in many of her albums is the sad love theme, which is found in Speak Now, Red, and Evermore. The second most popular love themes that Swift conveyed through her albums are unrequited love, which is found in Taylor Swift (Self-Titled Album) and 1989, and wishful love, which is found in Reputation and Midnights.  On the other hand, the least love themes found in the rest of the albums are teenage love, which is found in Fearless, romantic love, which is found in Lover, and immoral love, which is found in Folklore. Moreover, the finding also revealed that Swift has both perspectives on love as a young adult and adult. In addition, Swift’s love perspective as a young adult is found in nine albums, which are Taylor Swift (Self-Titled Album), Fearless, Speak Now, Red, 1989, Reputation, Folklore, Evermore, and Midnights. The only album that Swift has her love perspectives as an adult in is Lover.
