The Essence of Dvaravati: History Value and Dhamma in Suphanburi Province.

Abstract

This research article aims to: 1) Study the history, archaeological evidence, and cultural values of the Dvaravati civilization in Suphanburi Province. 2) Analyze the connection of Buddhism within the Dvaravati civilization in Suphanburi Province. 3) Develop educational media that convey the essence of the Dvaravati civilization in Suphanburi Province. This research article is a qualitative research, study conducted in U Thong District and Mueang Suphanburi District, Suphanburi Province. The research tools included surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions. The researchers collected data firsthand, then analyzed, interpreted, and presented the findings through descriptive writing. The study found that: 1)Historical and archaeological evidence reveals traces of the spread of Buddhism within the Dvaravati civilization, particularly in the area of the ancient city of U Thong, Suphanburi Province. These remnants offer spiritual value and a sense of pride in the remaining ancient sites. 2) The analysis of Buddhism’s influence shows that this area once flourished as a major port city, serving as a gateway for trade, religious dissemination, and diverse cultural exchange. It was a crucial point in the spread of Buddhism from India to Thailand. 3) The development of educational media and knowledge sets aims to promote U Thong Ancient city as a learning center and cultural tourism destination. Building collaborative networks between public and private sectors is also crucial to preserving the spiritual heritage and enduring values of the Dvaravati civilization in Suphanburi Province.
