  1. Publication policy of Journal of MCU Philosophy Review

The objectives of Journal of MCU Philosophy Review (JMPR) ISSN: 3027-7388 (Online) belonging to Graduate School, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University are committed to the publication of research and academic article in the areas of philosophy, metaphysics, epistemology, ethics and aesthetics or applied philosophy being integrated with other science, philosophy of education, philosophy of religion, and social and political philosophy, for instance. All papers are necessarily concerned with pure philosophy, applied philosophy and philosophical research. A writer who is going to submit the paper needs to identify his/her manuscript to align with the given groups of philosophy as follows:

 

First Group: Pure philosophy means an analysis of metaphysics, epistemology, ethics and aesthetics.

          1.1 Metaphysics means an analysis of metaphysical concepts from both Western and Eastern philosophy referring to the ultimate reality, its existence and various phenomena.

          1.2 Epistemology means an analysis of epistemological concepts from both Western and Eastern epistemology concerning with knowledge and its proofs of knowledge.

          1.3 Ethics means an analysis of the ethical concepts from both Western and Eastern ethics concerning with good, bad, right and wrong, ethical problems, surrogacy, mercy killing, abortion, human behaviour, for instance.

          1.4 Aesthetics means an analysis of the concepts of beauty in art, aesthetics, aesthetical taste, good and bad art including philosophy of art.

Second Group: Applied philosophy refers to the application of the principles of philosophy and religion to the interpretation of meanings and thereby proposing alternative guidelines to solve the problems appearing in the society as follows:

          2.1 Philosophy of education means an analysis of the educational principle and its approach through philosophical theory, the development of active learning in accordance with Pragmatism, learning of philosophy in social multicultural pluralism, for instance.

          2.2 Philosophy of religion means an analysis and interpretation of religious problems through philosophical theory, proofs of the existence of God, solutions of the problem of surrogacy by means of philosophy of religion, for instance.

          2.3 Social and Political philosophy means an analysis and interpretation of social and political problems through philosophical theory, problem of poverty, of disadvantage, of child and youth, of environment, for instance.

          In order to meet with the required ethical standard of publication, the submitted paper must not ever be published or being in the process of other reviewers from other journals. In doing this, a writer must strictly follow the criteria of submission of an academic or research paper. The process of citation and quotation must be academically done in accordance with the journal criteria as well.

          As regards the statements appearing in the journal, the onus is on the writer only to unsure the authenticity of a paper wherein the proposed opinions no longer belong to and thereby bringing about the responsibility to the editorial board of Journal of MCU Philosophy Review (JMPR) ISSN: 3027-7388 (Online). Furthermore, a writer must take human research ethics into account without violating or copying others’ work as if it belongs to himself/herself. To check plagiarism, the journal will utilize program CopyCat web Thaijo where the pass rate must not exceed 20% which has been used since 1 July 2021.

  1. Journal Evaluation Process and Selection Criteria

          This journal’s commitment is to select and evaluate a submitted research or academic paper relating to philosophy, and philosophy of religion, applied philosophy including inter-disciplinary science of humanities and social science where its characteristics are as follows: 1) the presentation of concepts and  issues the society is interested in, 2) the presentation of opinions or arguments over the philosophical theories and various sciences concerned, and 3) the presentation of guidelines leading to the integrated knowledge and thereby building the new body of trustable academic knowledge accordingly.

          The onus is on the editorial board in reviewing a submitted paper whereby the evaluative process and selection criteria are used as follows:

          1) An academic paper should be written in the manner of the given structure and academic language.

          2) A research paper should be appropriately written in the manner of the given research methodology, citation, and synthesis of new body of knowledge.

          3) A paper is clearly made in accordance with the social issues leading to benefit the society in the direct and indirect ways.

          The submitted paper should be concisely written by the manner of essay being accorded with the objective of such article.

          Therefore, both types of a paper, the research and academic one, must comprise of the following compositions:

  • The title written in Thai and English languages
  • For the research article, it must comprise of the abstract written in Thai language which must not exceed 350 words, and academic one not exceeds 300 words, and abstract written in English language which is grammatically and structurally corrected in accordance with the English language and professional standard.
  • The name of all writers should be written in Thai and English languages and the institution all writers belong to should be also mentioned. In this part, an email of the first author should be put too.
  • Keywords of the article should be given by both Thai and English languages (3-5 words)
  • The content of a paper comprises of the following ones:

An Academic article necessitates the subsequent content as follows:

  • Abstract should be written in Thai and English languages; 350 words are required for the research article, and 300 words for the academic one, the abstract written in English language should be grammatically and structurally corrected in accordance with the English language and professional standard.
  • Keywords should comprise of approximately 3-5 words written in Thai and English languages.
  • Introduction should be written in order to introduce the background and significance of the problem where presentation of the concerned issues and concepts is attempted to make it in the clear-cut manner and then the proposal of the required principles and claims could be done while writing such a paper.
  • Content needs the presentation of its significance described and explained step by step incorporating with theories and concepts before analyzing the main idea. While analyzing them, the important examples should be shown in order to present the new proposal gained from the contents claimed by a writer.

    Research Article
    needs the following subsequence:

1) Abstract should be written to propose the objectives of the research, research methodology, and research findings in the clear-cut and concise manner.

2) Keywords should comprise of 3-5 words written in Thai and English languages.

3) Introduction should be written to highlight the significance of the research problem where related data, conceptual framework, and objectives of the research are clearly put.

4) Research Methodology should be written to reflect on how the research design leading to get the sample group and its size, research tools, collecting data methods and analysis of data is obtained.

5) Result/Research Findings should be written to clearly show the research results gained from the study of given objectives step by step and this part could be shown through a table or chart.

6) Discussion should be written in the way that relates research results with conceptual framework, previous research works; its discussion should not be made separately but showing the connection of all hypotheses that have been studied.

7) The body of new knowledge gained from the research work needs to be mentioned as the research results made through the synthesis of data and then showing them by means of chart, diagram, or conceptual map which are explained by language easily accessible.

8) Conclusion should be written relevant to the proposed content and the new body of knowledge.

9) Suggestions should be given pointing to how the research results could be utilized and suggestions for further research should be also mentioned.

10) Reference should be concerned with the work already cited in footnotes only.

  1. Format of Manuscript Preparation

     1) The manuscript of a paper should contain lengthy of 12-15 of A4 page (including reference), it should be typed by Font THSarabunPSK in single page only. Its page layout is of 1 inch for the top edge and left edge and 1 inch for the right and bottom edge, the space between the line is of 1, it should skip a line between each paragraph, presentation of an image and table must be clearly shown in which numbering of a picture should be put in the bottom, bold font should be used like Table 1 and Picture 1 or Figure 1. Here the shown picture should contain the exact detail which is easy to understand without returning to the content, the sequence of each picture should be relevantly explained with the content in the manuscript where such explanation needs conciseness and relevancy of the shown picture accordingly.

2) The title should be written at the middle of the page in Thai and English language, Thai font 20 point, it should be put at the middle page, English language with 18 point and it should be put at the middle page with bold character too.

3) The name of the author should be written in Thai and English languages and email address is also needed with bold character, English language is of 16 points put at the right edge, address of the author with 16 points put at the left edge.

4) As regards the research article, the abstract written in Thai language should not exceed 350 words, the English language should be translated in accordance with Thai abstract, if such a paper is written in English language, the English language used in the abstract should not exceed 350 words, the abstract in the academic article should not exceed 300 words accordingly.

5) Keywords should be written in Thai and English languages.

6) Arrangement of headings, big heading should be put at the left edge with 18 points, sub-heading leaves the space from the bid heading 3-5 words, and begins typing at word of number 6 and the same sub-heading should be typed straight to one another, once putting big heading, it should skip the line of typing 0.5 additionally.

7) Arabic number should be used in the whole article.

  1. Reference System and Academic Cited Document

     It is kindly recommended to use American Psychological Association (APA) (6th Edition) as the standard of publication where the example as to how to write and cite references of concerned documents correctly could be provided for further understanding from the Website of APA https://www.apastyle.org. This system focusses on the citation of name and year where round bracket (-) is used in which the author’s name and surname and the page number of document are put in in the last part of the content needed reference and each cited document must appear in the final reference. In this, the author must take responsibility for its authenticity of all cited documents respectively.

     An example of writing reference comprises of the following:

4.1 If the author’s name appears in the front of referenced content, the name of the author must be used (year of publication) such as (Phra Brahmgunaphorn (P.A. Payutto), 2017), if the document is from Tipiṭaka, it should write in front of the content mentioning from which scripture this content comes and then number of Volume, number of article, and number of page, such as, it takes from Sutta, Volume 12, number of article 15, and page number 5 and then putting in the final content followed by name of Institution like (Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, 1996) or giving reference in the bracket that Thai Tipiṭaka, number of article, page number followed by the name of author (year of publication) such as : (Thai Tipiṭaka, Volume 12 article 15 page number 5, Mahachulalongkornrajavidyalaya University, 1996)

4.1.2 If the name of author appears in the last of the content cited, it can be done as: (Name of the author, Year of publication)

Citation of documents written in Thai language

1) Examples: the author is one, then cite the name of the author and use comma (,) following by number of the year of publication, and use colon (:) and following by page number of cited document such as (Parichart Suwanbubbha, 2002)

2) If there are two authors, then cite both the author’s names following by comma (,) following by year of publication with colon (:) and then page number of cited documents, such as (Karuna Kusalasai and Ruang-urai Kusalasai, 2002), if the cited document is more than one, then semicolon is used (;) between the cited documents such as (Preecha Changkhwanyean, 2012; Somparn Promta, 2015)

3) If there are more authors than two, then cite the first author’s name and then leave one space and type the word and et al. and then us colon (:) and then page number of cited documents such as (Phra Brahmbundit and et al. 2018)

4) The arrangement of citation should be put in accordance with the first alphabet of the author which is as same as the arrangement of citation done in cited documents.

Citation of documents written in English

1) If there is only one author, then cite surname of the author followed by comma (,) year of publication and number of pages cited such as (John Hick, 1991).

2) If there are two authors, then cite the surname of both authors followed by comma (,) year of publication and pages number of cited documents such as (Hume & Locke, 2007) and then use semi colon (;) in between the cited documents which are more than 1 document such as (John Hick, 1991; Hume&Locke,2007).

3) If there are more than two authors, then cite surname of the first author and followed by et at., year of publication and page number of cited documents such as (Keown et al., 2004).

4) The name of the author should be arranged in accordance with citation.

4.2 Reference uses format of APA as follows:

     1) Book

     Name of the author. (year of Publicaiton). Title. (Number of publication). Place of publication: Publisher.

2) Article in journal

The author’s name. (year of publication).name of journal, Year (Volume), first page-last page of the article.

          5) Preparation of Manuscript

          It becomes necessary for the author to prepare the manuscript with 10 pages in length and should not exceed 15 pages of A4 where it is recorded in the form of Microsoft Word (*.doc or *.docx) in the single page using THSarabunPSK PSK font. Its page layout is of 1 inch for the top edge and left edge and 1 inch for the right and bottom edge, the space between the line is of 1, it should skip a line between each paragraph, presentation of an image and table must be clearly shown in which numbering of a picture should be put in the bottom, bold font should be used like Table 1 and Picture 1 or Figure 1. Here, the shown picture should contain the exact detail which is easy to understand without returning to the content, the sequence of each picture should be relevantly explained with the content in the manuscript where such explanation needs conciseness and relevancy of the shown picture accordingly.

          Book Review must comprise of the name of the author, title of the book, place of publication, name of publisher, year of publication, and total number of pages. In this, a reviewer can write his/her reviewing not more than 15 pages in length and then it should be recorded in the form of Microsoft Word (*.doc or *.docx).

          Those who wish to submit the paper can use the system of online submission through signing up and submission via online website https://so06.tci-thaijo.org/index.php/jmpr/index. Once received, the editorial board will examine if first revising of a paper is needed, if needed, the author will be required to revise it, if not, it will be directed to peer reviews in order to be academically reviewed and evaluated. Once evaluated and revised, the process of publication will be taken up accordingly.
