Biography of Buddha: A Narration of Prominent Person in Theravada Buddhism

Abstract

This article was purposely made to study a narration of Biography of Buddha in Theravada Buddhism. It employed the documentary methodology and was found that the content of the Biography of Buddha relates to the history and miracles of the Lord Buddha. They appear in the historical parts from his birth until his death. In addition to the content started with the birth of humans and the supremacy of the king that comes from the belief in gods. Moreover, the content concerns how to behave differently from ordinary people, which shows superiority over other gods or prophets. In the other hand, the content is the practices and teachings of the Buddha. When it comes to a narration of Biography of Buddha, it is a combination of allegorical storytelling and references to beliefs in society. and beliefs about prominent people who must have special identities. In addition, the method of storytelling must be connected to listeners who do not understand the book but understand the pictures and the use of storytelling methods, which are telling folk tales with the history of the Buddha that are related.
