RAISING CONCIOUSNESS OF CITIZENSHIP IN DECISIONMAKING ELECTING REPRESSENTATIVES OF PHRA NAKHON SI AYUTTHAYA PROVINCE

Abstract

Objectives of this research article were : 1. to study the general condition of raising citizenship consciousness in deciding to exercise the right to vote for members of the House of Representatives in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province, 2. to study the factors for creating a consciousness of democratic citizenship in deciding to exercise the right to vote for members of the House of Representatives in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province and 3. to present the application of Buddhist principles to promote the creation of citizenship consciousness in deciding to exercise the right to vote for members of the House of Representatives in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province. It was a combined research method between quantitative research and qualitative research, by quantitative research using questionnaires and analyze the data with statistics, Mean, Standard Deviation. For the qualitative research, in-depth interviews with key informants were used, together with descriptive data analysis and specific group discussions.

The results of the research showed that :

1. The general condition of raising citizenship consciousness in the decision to exercise the right to vote for members of the House of Representatives in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province overall, it was at a moderate level. When considering each aspect, it was found that respect for laws and rules the most average, followed by the exercise of rights but not neglecting duties in the democratic system and the side with the least mean was political participation. 2. Factors for creating a sense of democratic citizenship in deciding to exercise the right to vote for members of the House of Representatives in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province overall, it was at a moderate level. When considering each aspect, it was found that the learning aspect with the highest mean, followed by attitude, and the aspect with the least mean was personality. 3. Model of application of Buddhist principles to promote the creation of citizenship awareness in decision-making to exercise the right to vote for members of the House of Representatives in Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Province overall, it was at a moderate level. When considering each aspect, it was found that on the acrobatic side, helping with business and being generous to society willingly with the highest mean, followed by the sophistication aspect, consensus not self-reliant and the aspect that has the least average value was the wording aspect, always inviting to do something useful.
