Career Potential Development based on Local Wisdom of the Elderly: A Case Study of Khanom Kong Group, Ban Hua Phai, Hua Phai Subdistrict, Mueang Sing Buri District Sing Buri Province

Abstract

The objectives of this research article were 1) to study the need to develop career potential based on the local wisdom of the elderly;  2) to develop a process for developing career potential based on the local wisdom of the elderly; and 3) to follow up and evaluate the development of career potential based on the local wisdom of the elderly: a case study of Khanom Kong group, Ban Hua Phai, Hua Phai Subdistrict, Mueang Sing Buri District, Sing Buri Province. Key informants were executives and officials of the Hua Phai Subdistrict Administrative Organization, community leaders, the elderly, and leaders of Khanom Kong group, Ban Hua Phai. The participants in the workshop project to develop career potential based on the local wisdom of the elderly consisted of 10 elderly people from the Khanom Kong group, Hua Phai and 7 students from Thepsatri Rajabhat University. The tools used for data collection were organizing group discussions, in-depth interviews and questionnaires. Data reliability was checked using triangulation and data were verified by key informants. Quantitative data analysis used descriptive statistics. And qualitative data was analyzed using content analysis. The results of the research found that 1) members had a desire to learn the recipe for making Khanom Sam Kler to expand sales opportunities; 2) participants in the workshop project "Khanom Sam Kler" were overall satisfied at the highest level. In terms of applying knowledge, it was found that before participating in the training, participants' knowledge and understanding were at a low level and after participating in the training, they had the highest level of knowledge and understanding; and 3) from monitoring and evaluating the career potential development based on local wisdom of the elderly in the Khanom Kong group, Ban Hua Phai, it was found that Khanom Sam Kler has received good response from customers very well which the group will produce and sell together with Khanom Kong. It had good sales and sells out every time.
