Development of Listening Skills through English Animated Films and Asking Questions according to the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy for Mathayomsuksa 3 Students

Abstract

The objective of this research article was to study the effects of applying English animated films and asking questions according to the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy to develop listening skills of lower secondary school students at Chainatpittayakom School. This was a quantitative research. The population used in this research was 190 Mathayomsuksa 3 students majoring in Science-Mathematics and studying Basic English in the second semester of the 2019 academic year. The sample consisted of 46 students who were selected by purposive sampling. The research instruments were 1) a pre-test and post-test listening using questions according to the Revised Bloom’s Taxonomy to test the development of students’ listening skills, 2) an English animated film, 3) a lesson plan, and 4) student satisfaction questionnaires on activities designed in the lesson plan. The statistics used in the research were mean, standard deviations and t-test dependent. The research results found that students had significantly improved English listening skills at a statistical level of .05 after studying animated films. Their satisfaction levels with classroom activities were at a very satisfactory level. It was also concluded that English animated films can be used as an alternative English teaching medium, along with the selection of appropriate multimedia to promote listening skills of lower secondary school students.
