Developing Indicators of the 21st Century Industrial Teachers Competencies under the Public Vocational Colleges in the Northeast

Abstract

The purposes of this research article were 1) to study the competencies of industrial vocational teachers in the 21^st Century; and 2) to examine the consistency of the structural model of indicators of industrial vocational teachers' competencies in the 21^st Century. It was a mixed- methods research. The sample consisted of 550 administrators and industrial vocational teachers under the Public Vocational Colleges in the Northeast, selected using a multistage sampling technique. The instrument used was a questionnaire with content validity at 1.00 and a reliability of .98. Data were analyzed using mean, standard deviation, and confirmatory factor analysis. The research results revealed that 1) the overall competency of industrial vocational teachers in the 21^st Century was at a high level; 2) competency indicators of the 21^st Century industrial vocational teacher consisted of four components: 2.1) knowledge in the industrial vocational profession, 2.2) classroom learning management, 2.3) educational innovation and technology, and 2.4) professional ethics and morality were consistent with empirical data, as determined by the Chi-squared ratio/df = 1.76, which did not exceed 2, and the Chi-squared ratio was not statistically significant. The P-value = 0.059, RMSEA = 0.037, which was less than 0.100, and the component weights were > 0.30 for all variables.
