An analysis of Fire Situation Awareness and Participation in Fire Evacuation Drills of Condominium Residents

Abstract
The purpose of this research article was to analyze fire situation awareness and participation in fire evacuation drills of condominium residents. The study examined a sample of 400 residents living in condominiums near the MRT Pink Line. Data was collected using questionnaires and analyzed using percentages, mean, standard deviations, and one-way ANOVA for all respondents. The statistical significance level was set at .05. The study results showed that all respondent groups had an overall average awareness score of 4.48 regarding fire situation awareness, with a mean and standard deviation (S.D.) of 0.53. The levels of awareness, ranked from highest to lowest, were 1) level of visual and observational awareness (4.54); 2) level of risk understanding and perception (4.51); and 3) level of foresight (4.40). The overall average awareness regarding participation in fire drills and evacuation was 4.41, with a mean and standard deviation (S.D.) of 0.59. The levels of awareness, ranked from highest to lowest, were 1) level of information perception through visual and observation (4.43), 2) level of assessment of understanding and perception of risk (4.41), and 3) level of foresight (4.39). The results of the one-way comparison of variance showed that experience in participating in fire evacuation drills was significantly correlated with fire situation awareness and awareness of participating in fire extinguishing and evacuation drills at the .273 and .245 statistical significance levels, respectively. The aspect showing significant differences among the experience groups was “fire situation awareness: level of information perception through visual and observation.”
