Factors Influencing Public Popularity Toward Local Politicians in Phetchaburi Province

Abstract
The purposes of this research article were 1) to study the context and current state of public popularity toward local politicians in Phetchaburi Province; 2) to study the factors influencing public popularity toward local politicians in Phetchaburi Province; and 3) to propose a model for enhancing public popularity toward local politicians in Phetchaburi Province. A mixed-methods research approach was used, combining qualitative research through structured interviews with 17 key informants and quantitative research using questionnaires. The population consisted of 11,550 people, and simple random sampling resulted in a sample of 387 individuals. The content validity index was 1.00, and the reliability coefficient was 0.956. Data analysis tools included descriptive statistics, Pearson correlation coefficient, and simple linear regression analysis. The research findings revealed that 1) in terms of the current context regarding public popularity included the politician's background, kinship-based political succession, family economic conditions passed down through generations, and the influence of patronage and bureaucratic systems. Overall, public popularity was at a high level ( = 4.28); 2) factors influencing public popularity, namely social status values (X21), the personality traits of politicians (X22), and network relationships (X24), had a statistically significant multiple correlation with factors affecting public popularity of local politicians (Y) at the 0.000 level. The multiple correlation coefficient was .611, and these factors accounted for 37.3% of the variance (standard error) and 45.0% of the variance in overall popularity (Y); 3) patterns for enhancing public popularity included trust and participation in local politics under a democratic system, respect for rules and regulations to resolve disputes, and constructive political criticism based on community principles. Overall popularity enhancement was at a high level (
= 4.37).
