Abstract

The purpose of this research article aimed to analyze and examine the structural validity of the psychological empowerment model of government teachers with empirical data using quantitative research methods. The population consisted of 4,901 government teachers in large and extra-large secondary schools, according to the criteria of the Office of the Basic Education Commission, in 9 provinces of lower northern Thailand. The sample size was 150 teachers, obtained through multi-stage sampling, selecting provinces, schools, and teachers who provided the information in that order. The research instrument was a 23-item questionnaire with a 5-level Likert scale. Content validity was tested by 5 experts, yielding content validity index was 0.6, 0.8, and 1; the item discrimination power value ranged from .264 to .884; and the reliability of the entire questionnaire was .939. Data was analyzed using second-order confirmatory factor analysis with AMOS software. The research results found that the model of psychological empowerment of government teachers was consistent with the empirical data, with chi-square X2 = 247.245, df = 218, relative chi-square statistic (X2/df) = 1.134, p = .085, CFI = .957, TLI = .950 and RMSEA = .030. It consisted of 4 components: (1) The meaning assigned had a component weight of 1.000; (2) Ability had a component weight of .744; (3) Self-determination had a factor weight of .747; and (4) Effects had a factor weight of .915. Therefore, the structural validation of the teacher empowerment scale developed from this research can be used as a psychological assessment tool in educational institutions as a guideline for further developing the teacher empowerment skills. And it can be further developed into a structural equation model to examine the relationship between psychological empowerment and other related variables.
