Abstract

This academic article aims to examine related concepts and theories, identify the factors affecting digital communication competence, and analyze the relationships among these factors, with a focus on key factors related to the use of digital technology for communication. The study reviews concepts, theories, and research on digital competence and digital communication that are empirically grounded and drawn from credible sources in order to analyze the relationships among the factors affecting digital communication competence. The study finds that digital communication competence is influenced by six key factors: (1) the use of digital technology for communication, (2) digital information exchange, (3) collaboration through digital technology, (4) sharing of digital information and content, (5) etiquette and ethics in digital communication, and (6) digital identity management. These six factors are interrelated and play an important role in developing individuals’ ability to use digital technology for communication, knowledge exchange, and interaction in online environments. The study further indicates that developing digital communication competence requires attention to technological skills, communication and collaboration, appropriate information sharing, and awareness of ethics and identity management in the online world, so that communication through digital technology is effective and socially responsible. The knowledge gained from this study can serve as a conceptual framework for developing instruments to measure digital communication competence and as a guideline for developing the digital communication skills of personnel in organizations or learners in educational institutions, enabling them to adapt and thrive in the digital society effectively and sustainably.
