Wai Khru Ceremony of Northern Thai Folk Dance: Case Study Maekru Buariao Rattanamaniporn

Abstract

Wai Kru is a ceremony that shows the respect, gratefulness toward teachers who pass on knowledge in each field to teachers which is a tradition that has been inherited due to the academic styles in each field, particularly, Wai Kru ceremony for folk dance. This ceremony are differences according to the custom practice into two styles including folk ceremony and royal ceremony. The Wai Kru ceremony for folk dance is different due to the regions such as northern, north-eastern, and southern. In each region, Wari Kru ceremony divided in dancing styles such as Wai Kru Nora ceremony, Wai Kru Fon ceremony or Wai Kru ceremony of Northern folk dance.

The study of Wai Kru Ceremony of Northern is a study from secondary sources from animations, slides, certificates, documents, books, textbooks and also the interview from people who work for Wai Kru ceremony of northern Thai folk dance. It is a study of Wai Kru ceremony of northern Thai folk dance of dancing lineage from Mae Kru Buareiw Rattanamaneeporn, a national artist in Performing Arts (Folk Dance – dancer) B.E. 2559. The study found that Mae Kru Buariew Rattanamaneepron organized Wai Kru ceremony into 3 styles including Wai Kru ceremony for accepting disciples, an annual Wai Kru ceremony of Mae Kru Buariew Rattamaneeporn lineage, Wai Kru ceremony for educational institutes. This ceremony is a process that could repose their trustworthiness, make respect to each other in schools, build process of working cooperation towards disciples, and create society to students performance.
