The Guidelines for Preserving Arts and Culture by Community Participation Case Study : Glong Puja Group, Ban Mae Rang, Mae Rang Subdistrict, Pa Sang District, Lamphun Province

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the history and development of the Puja drumming of      Ban Mae Rang community, the process of community participation in conserving the arts and culture of Puja drums and the guideline in conserving and promoting the arts and culture of Puja drum group in Ban Mae Rang community, Mae Rang sub-district, Pa sang district, Lamphun. It is a mixed method research. The samples used in this study were teachers, community leaders, members of Puja drum group, youths and representatives of villagers in Ban Mae Rang community, Mae Rang sub-district, Pa sang district, Lamphun by interviewing 15 people and 251 questionnaires were used. The research tools for this study were interviewing form, analysis by descriptive writing, and questionnaires for data analysis using the excel program. The data analysis results were presented by descriptive statistics.                                            

The result of the research revealed the history and development of the Puja drumming of Ban Mae Rang community that the Puja drum is considered to be the oldest musical instrument. Before establishing the Puja drum group, the intension to develop Puja drumming was from the inheritance by Phor Khru Chaiwat Boonsom. It has been inherited because the Puja drum is a unique cultural identity and the participation of the community towards the preservation of the arts and culture of the Puja drum. From 251 samples, the indicators found were the participation in receiving benefits. Overall, it was at a high level with an average of 3.46 because it benefited from the development of the conservation of the Puja drum. In terms of earning more income during various occasions of Puja drumming and guidelines for conserving and promoting arts and culture of the Puja drum group that caused their own change from participating in the conservation of the Puja drum to be carried on in the future.
