An Analysis on Translation Strategies of Oscars Best Picture Nominated Film Titles of the 2010s from English to Thai

บทคัดย่อ

The main objective of this study is to analyze and classify techniques used in translating the Oscars Best Picture nominated films titles to Thai language from 2010 to 2019 ceremonies. This research has correspondingly tended to assess on the comparison of the source language (SL) and target language (TL) of the titles. The data were analyzed based on the theoretical frameworks suggested by Vermeer (1996) and Newmark (1988). Besides, film titles translation techniques of Thongwan (2012) is applied to this analysis. There are 89 Oscars best picture nominations from the 82nd to 91st Academy Awards collected from the official website of the Academy Awards, oscars.org. The result of the study showed that there were nine techniques in the film titles translation in the 2010s from English to Thai. Furthermore, the analysis of the film title translations assist translators of other languages to comprehend the direction of English film titles translation to foreign languages.
