Process Developing Behavior of Inmates in the Buddhist Perspective

Abstract

This research, the process of prisoners’ behavior development with Buddhism integration, has purposes that are to study the process of prisoners’ behavior development with Buddhism integration, to study the process of prisoners’ behavior development in Theravada, and to analyze the process of prisoners’ behavior development with Buddhism integration. There are 51 people who are target group in the research. Research instruments are including In-depth interview and content analysis.

            Results of the study

1. The process of prisoners’ behavior development with Buddhism integration: the way of life and behavior development with Buddhism principles following two stages, an initial stage toward virtue is the stage of self-practicing in education and right view that is foundations of self-practicing and self-development, and tri-sikha stage is about fully human development that could be studied simultaneously with human potential study by following Buddhism moral principles, that are Bhavana 4 (developments) and Cakka 4 (virtues wheeling one to prosperity), for prisoners’ life quality and behavior development.


2. The process of prisoners’ behavior development in Theravada by studying Buddhadhamma and prisoners’ life quality and behavior development with Bhavana 4 also prisoners’ life quality and behavior development with Cakka 4.


3. An analysis of the process of prisoners’ behavior development with Buddhism integration, the process of prisoners’ behavior development with Buddhism integration that is following Bhavana 4 including the first development is body, it is process of development that put emphasis on prisoners’ physical development, the second development is social, it is process of development that put emphasis on prisoners’ social development, the third development is mind, it is process of development that put emphasis on prisoners’ mind development, the last development is wisdom, it is process of development that put emphasis on prisoners’ wisdom development. Additional, the process is following Cakka 4 including Patirupadesavasa: prisoners live in a good environment, Sappurisupassaya: a training about association with good friends or good people in Sappurisa-Dhamma is provided to prisoners in prison, Attasammapanidhi: a training about setting oneself in the right course following basic practice, the five precepts, is also provided in prison, and Pubbekatapunnata: prisoners get to practice themselves having formerly done meritorious deeds that should be done..
