The Factors Affecting Parents’ Decision to Have their Children Study at Mahapet Kindergarten of Ban Dontalad in Champasak, Lao People’s Democratic Republic

Abstract
The objectives of the research were 1. to study the factors that affected parents’ decision to have their children study at the Mahapet kindergarten of Ban Dontalad in Champasak, Lao People’s Democratic Republic, 2. to compare the opinion of the guardians concerned, and 3. to investigate the recommendations on the factors that affected the parents’ decision to have their children study at the kindergarten under study. The samples used in the present research were 240 parents or guardians of students of the Mahapet kindergarten of Ban Dontalad in Champasak. The research instrument was a five-rating scale questionnaire of 50 items. Statistics used in data analysis were frequency, means, standard deviation, t-test and Scheffle’s method.
The research findings were as follows:
- The factors in the study affected the parents’ decision to have their children study at the Mahapet kindergarten of Ban Dontalad at a high level in all aspects.
- Considering the factors under study as classified by sex, age, monthly incomes, occupations, no difference was found. As classified by educational levels, there was difference at a statistical significance of .05. Difference was also found in the service, community relations and reputations of the school.
- The recommendations on the factors that affected the parents’ decision were as follows. 1. A wide range of experiences and learning was needed. 2. Teachers should closely supervise students under their care regarding the students using technology so that they were correctly guided in using the technology in an appropriate fashion. Individual students should be constantly evaluated and helped. 3. The school should support a variety of students’ talents. It should encourage parents to appreciate the rewards won by the school. 4. The surroundings should be made convenient and safe for students. 5. As for administration and community relations, the school should utilize technology and information to get contact with parents and communities.
