READING COMPREHENSION SKILL DEVELOPMENT USING SQ4R TEACHING METHODS AND READING COMPREHENSION SKILL EXERCISES FOR GRADE FOUR STUDENTS

Abstract

This research study aims to: 1) develop reading comprehension of Grade Four students using SQ4R teaching methods and reading comprehension skill exercises; 2) compare pre- and post-learning achievement of Thai courses using SQ4R teaching methods and reading comprehension skill exercises; and 3) examine satisfaction of the students reading comprehension skill development using SQ4R teaching methods and reading comprehension skill exercises for Grade Four students. The research findings revealed that: 1) Reading comprehension gained scores of Grade Four students from exercises 1-6 were 62.3 percent, 68.5 percent, 70.4 percent, 74.6 percent, 75.8 percent, and 78.1 percent, respectively. Reading comprehension using SQ4R teaching methods and reading comprehension skill exercises showed that the students got pre-scores were higher than post-scores at the statistical significance level of .01. 2) Pre-achievement scores of Grade Four students learning through SQ4R teaching methods and reading comprehension skill exercises were higher than post-achievement scores at the statistical significance level of .01. 3) The satisfaction of Grade Four students towards learning management using SQ4R teaching methods and reading comprehension skill exercises were holistically at the very good level.
