Abstract

The purpose of this research is to 1) study the passion according to Theravada Buddhist philosophy; 2) study the refinement of desires according to Theravada Buddhist philosophy; and 3. analyze the refinement of desires according to Theravada Buddhist philosophy. Samples used include Tipitaka, commentary, textbooks and related research papers. The document Is a qualitative research study with Information that has been analyzed in the form of inductive conclusion. This research article will discuss only objective 1. The research found that passion in Theravada Buddhist philosophy is a kind of Dharma. Passion is not the essence of the mind. Passion causes the souls of the dead to perish and die. Refining the passion by relying on the discipline of the Paka to refine the rough passion. Principles of Abhidhamma Pidaka refine the desires thoroughly. Passion is divided into 3 types, greed is a passion that causes mental symptoms, anger is a passion that causes mental discomfort, and Illusion the passion that causes the mind to become enchanted. Collectively, they are called unwholesome roots, and are classified into 3 types, including rude passion, Central Passion and Thorough passion. The ongoing Dharma process relates to each other in the form of causality having a relationship with emotions or stimuli as a circuit system without beginning or end. Blame of passion, including Sensuality has little penalty with slow release. Anger is very punishable, with quicker release and rulers are severely punished with slow release.
