SONG Model: Teaching singing for Early childhood student

Abstract

Teaching singing is not compulsory education in early childhood. However, children at this age are not ready for learning academic skills. To promote and create foundation of learning principles for children at this age, teachers need to find a variety of fun teaching techniques, insert knowledge content through various activities, including teaching singing because it is very close to children. Children's world is a world of music and songs. For creating imagination and learning for children at this age, music is important for various aspects of child development including child movement, listening, singing and playing music. All these things can lead children to quality learning and age-appropriate development.

           Singing for early childhood is an important experience which can encourage children to express their own emotions and feelings appropriate to their age, to be happy, to be cheerful, and to be empathetic to others. They can also develop morality, ethics, aesthetics, self-satisfaction and self-confidence.  Moreover, singing can stimulate cognitive comprehension and excellent memory for learning content through the process of singing. It also helps children relax and does not make children so stressed that they do would not like to go to school. The rhythm and lyrics of each song can also help calm the mind of children and allow them to adjust their mood in a positive way.

           This article aims to point out the importance of using music in learning management for children in early childhood, song selection, guidelines for teaching singing in the form of the SONG Model including the process of teaching singing and the samples of songs that can be applied by teachers to teach singing for children in early childhood .
