Practicing Vibrato Technique for Cello

Abstract

Vibrato is a wavering effect of note with a purpose to make that note sound more interesting and more beautiful. This technique is usually practiced by vocalists, strings and some woodwind instruments musicians. The vibrato technique on cello is a technique that every intermediate and upper level cellist must learn in order to master the beautiful vibrato. To practice the vibrato technique on cello, the player needs to consider the range of the wavering, the speed of vibrato, the pitch of note as well as the position and the shape of the hands and fingers. Not only that the player has to understand how to position the arms, hands and fingers, he or she would have to learn and understand the balance between the hands and fingers during the vibrato in order to be able to master the beautiful vibrato that can exude emotions that the composer intends to the audience with perfection.
