Mendelssohn: Violin Sonata No.1 Transcribed for Flute
Keywords:
Transcription, Flute, RepertoireAbstract
The aim of The Interpreting Techniques of the New Transcriptions for Flute is to study the transcription techniques from the leading flutists aiming for the best possibilities in adapting playing techniques from violin to flute. In the studying process, the researcher transcribed and performed Mendelssohn’s Violin Sonata No.1 featuring as a part of his doctoral recitals. The results revealed that the researcher’s transcription of Mendelssohn’s Violin Sonata employs three similar music arranging techniques evidenced in other leading arrangers’ music arrangements for flute including 1) reducing the larger musical range of violin into the appropriate range of flute 2) adding necessary pitches within the same key area of the passages 3) adjusting some extended techniques of violin to be suitable for available flute’s techniques.
