Abstract

AI Suite is a contemporary music composition for a large percussion ensemble. The piece has composed for pitched percussion instruments and unpitched percussion instruments. AI Suite for percussion ensemble inspired by mechanism of robot and machine, using modern techniques to convey meanings that are consistent with the characteristics of machines and robot. The composition contained 4 movements. They are Introduction, Robotic, Lento Appassionata and Machines. Each movement uses a variety of musical materials. Drums rudiments are an important resource for keyboard percussion’s playing technique (Marimba, Xylophone and Vibraphone) which lead to composition variety of sounds and musical colors. The common percussion instruments; auxiliary percussion and toy percussion instruments are adapted to be used new playing techniques to convey meaning of robot’s sound mechanism. AI Suite for percussion ensemble is implementing compositional techniques and variety of musical materials including rudiments, textures, pitches, articulations, dynamic and rhythmic dimensions unique to the composer identity.
