A Development of an Ability in Solving the Mathematical Numbers and Numerals by Using the Four Noble Truth- Based Approach for Mattayom Suksa One Students of Benjalukpittaya School under the Secondary Educational Service Area Office 28

Abstract

The objectives of the research were to study a development of an ability to solve the problem in mathematical numbers and numerals by using the Four Noble Truth-based teaching and learning approach, and to compare an ability to solve the problem in mathematical numbers and numerals before and after its development, and to study the students’ attitude towards mathematics learning.  The samples were 31 Mattayom Suksa one students of Benjalukpittaya School enrolled in the second semester of the academic year 2013, derived by a cluster random sampling.  The research instruments were learning activity plans based on the Four Noble Truth approach, sub-test to measure the students’ ability to solve the mathematical problems, and a questionnaire to survey the students’ attitude towards mathematics learning.  Statistics used in data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation and t-test.

The research findings were as follows

1. The development of an ability to solve the mathematical numbers and numerals by using the Four Noble Truth-based approach consisted of the following: 1) Suffering, 2) Causes of suffering, 3) Cessation, and 4) Path to cessation.
2. The students’ ability in solving the problem in mathematical numbers and numerals, it was found that after students were developed in this study, they had higher these ability than that an before with the statistical significant at a .05 level.
3. As regards the students’ attitude towards mathematics learning, it was found that the overall students had a good level of attitude.
