DEVELOPING ENGLISH LISTENING AND PRONUNCIATION SKILLS THROUGH SYNTHETIC PHONICS TEACHING PRINCIPLES USING JOLLY PHONICS TEACHING APPROACH

English is an essential tool in an age of cutting-edge technology and borderless traveling communities. Everyone needs English to listen and speak. By using listening skills and correct English pronunciation can increase clarity for listeners to understand better. Speakers can speak more clearly, confidently and communicate successfully. Successful English communication will increase international opportunities and cooperation. Nevertheless, most Thai people have problems using English for communication. For the reason that the pronunciation in Thai and English is different, therefore causing Thai people's English pronunciation inconsistent and impedes communication. It can be said that the sounds in English that Thai people have problems are sounds that do not exist in Thai language. For example, the pronunciation of the position at the end of a word in English causing Thai to pronounce it incorrectly because Thai language does not pronounce the ending sounds. Therefore, to develop English listening and pronunciation skills require teaching that is different from rote-learning and repeat-after-me method. However, teaching by starting with phonemes and pronunciation methods could help enhance listening skills at the phoneme level and distinguish sounds, mix sounds, and read new words without having to memorize them. Using a synthetic phonics teaching principles together with a fun and interesting teaching method like Jolly Phonics. In which, it is included in the core curriculum of basic education in England and the United States. With the language environment that is not pressured learners and provide safe environment. This allows the learner's learning to proceed without fear of making mistake. Therefore, learners have the courage and confidence to learn English pronunciation.
