Abstract

The objectives of this research were: 1) to develop and determine the efficiency of mathematics learning activities utilizing board games combined with cooperative learning on the Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, and Division of Natural Numbers to enhance the mathematical problem-solving ability of Grade 4 students, meeting the 80/80 efficiency criterion; 2) to compare the mathematical problem-solving ability of Grade 4 students before and after participating in the activities; and 3) to assess the development of students' mathematical problem-solving ability following the activities. The sample group consisted of 40 Grade 4/4 students from Wat Khian Khet School, enrolled in the first semester of the 2025 academic year, selected using cluster random sampling. The research instruments included: 1) 8 lesson plans for the Basic Mathematics course on operations of natural numbers using board games and cooperative learning, which were evaluated as a very high level of appropriateness (M = 5.00, SD = 0.00), 2) 8 educational board games developed by the researcher, and 3) a mathematical problem-solving ability test consisting of 15 multiple-choice items (4 options) and 2 constructed-response items, with Item-Objective Congruence (IOC) ranging from 0.67 to 1.00, difficulty index (p) between 0.34 - 0.81, and discrimination power (r) between 0.31 and 0.43. The statistics utilized for data analysis were percentage, mean, standard deviation, and the paired sample t-test.
The research findings were as follows: 1) The efficiency of the developed mathematics learning activities utilizing board games combined with cooperative learning (E1/E2) was 81.21/82.50, which higher than the criterion of 80/80. 2) The post-test mean score (M = 14.77, SD = 2.80) was statistical higher than the pre-test mean score (M = 7.87, SD = 2.21) at the .05 level of significance. 3) The assessment of development using relative gain scores indicated that the students achieved an overall high level of development (58.53%). These results reflect that integrating board games with cooperative learning processes effectively promotes students' silly mathematical problem-solving.
