Design and Construction of a Portable Coconut Endocarp Shell Peeling Machine

Abstract

This research aims to design and construct a coconut endocarp peeling machine that is user-friendly, convenient, not complex, and compact. The coconut endocarp peeling machine consists of two main components. First is a blade set with a handle and the other is a speed control unit for the blade. The performance of this peeling machine is measured by the amount of coconut weight loss and the time taken to peel 10 coconuts. The evaluation of user satisfaction was conducted using a 3-level satisfaction questionnaire as index of item objective congruence (IOC). From the research results, the coconut endocarp peeling machine could operate with a coconut weight loss from 16-23% and an average peeling time of 1.10-1.43 minutes. The satisfaction in machine was evaluated using Index of item objective congruence (IOC) by users as being satisfied with the overall use at acceptable level.
