KNOWLEDGE MANAGEMENT MODELS FOR LOCAL WISDOM AND CULTURE : A CASE STUDY OF PAK PHLI DISTRIC NAKHON NAYOK PROVINCE

Abstract

This research was aimed to find a knowledge management model for local wisdom and culture:
a case study of Pak Phli district, Nakhon Nayok province. The research and development approach was
applied to 1) study the situations and history of the local wisdom and culture management in Pak Phli
district, Nakhon Nayok province, 2) design and develop an appropriate model for the knowledge
management of the local wisdom and culture for the district, 3) implement the developed model for local
knowledge and culture in the district, and 4) evaluate and improve the model of the local wisdom and
culture knowledge management for Pak Phli district, Nakhon Nayok province. The study area included the
8 local wisdom and culture sources in Pak Phli district, Nakhon Nayok province; 20 key informants in the
study were purposely selected from the heads of government agencies in the area, the local academics,
the community leaders, folk wisdom or local wisdom and culture experts, and government officials and
employees in the private sector. The tools included a questionnaire, an in-depth interview guideline, group
discussion and learning exchange organizing. The developed model was implemented in Ta Ruae and Koh
Wai communities. The data were collected during September 2017 through January 2018; then, they were
analyzed for frequency, per cent, mean, standard deviation, and content analysis.
The findings revealed 1) the situations and history of the local wisdom and culture management
in Pak Phli district, Nakhon Nayok province, have been in consistent with the local conditions, wisdom, and
culture, accumulated and inherited by the ancestors, and then passed as the wisdom of local knowledge
for more than 200 years. Pak Phli district has been considered a tourist attraction with knowledgeable and
competent leaders; however, the knowledge acquisition, storage process, inheritance, and the conservation
of the local wisdom and culture here have still faced many problems. 2) The developed model for the
local wisdom and culture of Pak Phli district is KKLVCS model. K is for the knowledge model, K is for
knowledge sharing and exchanging, L is for learning community, V is for value, C is for conservation, and S
is for self-reliance. 3) The implementation of the knowledge management model showed it was
appropriate for the development of the local knowledge and culture management in all respects. 4) The
important results of the model evaluation showed that all levels of the personnel were encouraged to
have their knowledge developed through training, various knowledge exchanging; they valued the
conservation of the local knowledge and culture inheritance, based on the sufficiency economy that could
lead them to their self-reliance, by setting up responsible groups to receive budgets from the government
to efficiently and sustainably promote the model for the local knowledge and culture management in Pak
Phli district, Nakhon Nayok province.
