Abstract
This article aimed to study language powers in discourses of Seksan Prasoetkun’s works which were created to show the authority power in the author’s discourses, and influence of the powers of discourse on socio-culture. The texts selected which were from the 43 literary works published during 1973-2014 were used for analysis. A theory of critical discourse analysis was used for this study. The result of study showed that Seksan Prasoetkun used 11 linguistic techniques to create authority powers, namely, choice of word, paradox, irony, quotes, metaphor, rhetorical question, appraisal word, modality, causal and effect, repeated pattern, and the use of intertextuality. These language powers were communicated through 8 volumes of discourses, namely, discourse on nationality and Thaihood, politico-economics, democracy, capitalist globalization, poverty, usurpation, good man, culture, and University. These discourses indicated 5 authority powers such as criticism, argumentation against main discourse, revealing of injustice, mutiny against power and structure of power and social leading. The result of influence of power of discourse on socio-culture showed that Seksan Prasoetkun’s discourses had an effect on writers and scholars, and be accepted by the Thai society.
