Values in Sumali Bamrungsuk’s Youth Literature

Abstract

This research article aimed at analysis of values in five novels of Sumali Bumrungsuk’s youth literature : Pritsana Na Ron, Mok Maeo Mahatsachan, Rueang Khong Mamiao, Mamiao Lae Puean, and Khraidithisut, based on the literary values analysis method of Saithip Nukulkit and the fiction values analysis method of the department of academic affairs, ministry of education. The study revealed that the novels indicated three common values as follows: First, emotional values were presented through the five novels by employing nine amusing and entertaining techniques: plots, themes, characters, settings and atmospheres, dialogues, points of view, styles, novel and episode naming, and illustrations. Second, moral ethics values were presented through eight moral attributes: kindness, cleanliness, discipline,
logical thinking, frugality, acquaintance, democracy promotion, and reading habit implantation. Third, knowledge values were presented through four aspects of knowledge: animals, Thai language use, tales, and Thai and foreign beliefs.
