Conceptual Metaphor About Politics: Case Study of Thai politician debate in the election, 2019

Abstract

This research aims at analyzing conceptual Metaphors and functions of conceptual metaphors about politics when Thai politicians debate in the election, 2019. Using the conceptual metaphors of Lakoff and Johnson (1980), analyzing the conceptual metaphors. And use the theory of Goatly (1998) to analyze the function of conceptual metaphors. It is found that the metaphorical expressions About Politics reflect 10 conceptual metaphors: 1. (POLITICS IS WAR) 2. (POLITICS IS COMPETITION) 3. (POLITICS IS BETTING) 4. (POLITICS IS BUSINESS) 5. (POLITICS IS PEFORMANCE) 6. (POLITICS IS EDUCATION) 7. (POLITICS IS A JOUNEY) 8. (POLITICS IS MAINTAIN) 9. (POLITICS IS FAMILY) and 10. (POLITICS IS LIFE). In term of function, that the conceptual metaphors about politics have 3 functions, that is 1.Ideational function 2.Interpersonal function and 3.Textual function
