THE PARTICIPATION OF PEOPLE IN ADMINSTRATION A CASE STUDY OF RATAPUM SUP-DISTRICT ADMINISTRATIVE

Abstract

The objectives of this thematic paper were: (1) To study the local people participation in the management of Rattapoom Municipality Village, Kuan-niang District, Songkhla Province (2) To compare such participation in terms of the variables of gender, age, educational level and different occupations. (3) To study problems and provide suggestions of the mentioned participation in the management of Rattapoom Municipality Village, Kuan-niang District, Songkhla Province. The sampling methodology consisted of 379 eligible voters from12 sub-districts within the municipality area; the questionnaires used for this study were an open-end basis; the data analysis were calculated by means of frequency and percentage .

          The results of the research are:

          The levels of the residential participation in the management of Rattapoom Municipality Village as a whole were at a moderate level. Considering by individual categories, it was found that the public participation in municipality management in making decision, general activities and the benefits that the community received from the management are at the moderate level. While the participation involving an evaluation was below average. It was further appeared that the comparison of the participation varied on gender, age, educational level and occupation differed at the rate of .05 No different for samplings with the same range of age and education were shown. There were problems affected to those who did not participate in the evaluation procedure of the community management nor sharing information. It affected to the development projects for the community as well. It was suggested that an encouragement to people within the community to participate in the municipality management and setting up of the public relation for any development projects that may affect to the community environment were needed. Sharing information of problems and finding way to solve such problems were also suggested. The suggestion included in setting up a small group of community to discuss the problems for each area.
