THE ROLE OR PHRADHAMMADHAJAMUNI (SAENG JUTINDHARO) TOWARDS SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract

The objectives of this thesis paper as follows: 1) to study the development of society. 2) to study the biography. And 3) to study the role of social development of Phra Thammathatmuni (Saeng Chutintharo). This research is qualitative research. Researchers collected information from the document and interviewed Phra Thammathatmuni (Saeng Chutintharo), relatives of the monks and other persons concerned. After that, the researcher arranged them and represent the knowledge about the social development that base on Phra Thammathatmuni (Saeng Chutintharo)’s case study.

The research result meets that.

To develop a society, it is needed that its people were needed to be developed. Also, there must be someone with leadership characteristic to help direct the way—someone who was able to set good examples and could be trusted by those who were ready to follow his or her direction both in the way of behaving and actual action. The leader must be able to play an important part in driving the desirable development, summoning up all helpful principles and theories available into practical uses. What is more, the application must be rightful and suitable in order that they really could help make the society develop and prosper in a manner that the development was able to legally and exactly respond the needs of the social members. As a result, the happiness and peacefulness occurred in the society.

Phra Thammathatmuni (Saeng Chutintharo) was one of the Buddhist monks who had practiced right. He had studied the Buddha’s teachings and determinedly practiced what he learned from the Scriptures. His role among the Buddhist monks was outstandingly important as he had been rightfully practicing strictly following the Buddhist Dharma-Vinaya or Dharma Discipline, in particular, the Teachings which would result in the blessedness for those who really follow the Dharma. Employing both worldly knowledge and religious beliefs, he tried best to help teach Buddhists to lead their lives safely and happily in the society.

As regards the social development, Phra Thammathatmuni had performed this role employing the principles of development. Such societies as those of the Sangha or Buddhist monks and the householders had been helped bettered by him. The following programs: government affairs, dissemination of Buddhist beliefs, education and educational welfare, general public assistance, and Wat Dhamma Bucha Dharma Practice Center were all arisen from his initiation. It was therefore easily understandable that the role Phra Thammathatmuni had taken was very important and helpful to both the Buddhist religion and the Thai society. And thus Phra Thammathatmuni had established a very good example for all Buddhist monks and general people in the society
