ROLES OF MORAL TEACHING MONKS FOR MORAL AND ETHICAL PROMOTION IN SCHOOLS OF NAKHON SI THAMMARAT PROVINCE

Abstract

This thesis aimed to study roles, problems, and obstacles, including guidelines for promoting morality and ethics in schools of Nakhon Si Thammarat. Mixed research was employed in this research. The research population included Suankularb Wittayalai School, Tha Nakorn Yanawaropas Uthit School, Chalermprakiat Somdej Srinagarindra School, and the sample group was composed of 285 people, selected using the Krejcie and Morgan Table. The application package was employed for quantitative data analysis; the statistics used in this research were percentage, mean, and standard deviation. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with five key informants for qualitative research. Descriptive content analysis was employed to analyze the data. 

The research showed that;

1. Overall, the roles of monks who taught about morals and ethics to promote morality and ethics in schools were high. When considering each aspect, teaching development on morals and ethics to students had the highest average. The second highest average was the activities provided in schools to develop morals and ethics. The environmental arrangement in the school to develop morals and ethics was an aspect with the lowest average.


2. The results from gathering suggestions showed that the obstacles in the school's environmental arrangement to develop morals and ethics included inappropriate learning conditions for studying Buddhism, such as meditation or prayer.


3. The solutions for teaching students about the development of morals and ethics were that teachers should have more religious experiences to teach Buddhism courses. They should change the learning environment by providing a field trip for students, such as visiting temples or peaceful natural sites.
